The Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) is already known as a cause for the development of cervical cancer. Now experts assume that HPV triggers tumours in the oral cavity as well. According to the German Society of Oto-Rhino-Laryngology, Head and Neck Surgery, every second case of cancer in the oral pharynx and every fourth tumour in the oral cavity can be traced back to an infection with HPV.
